The St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School, located in Watertown, MA is a child-centered American-Armenian institution, committed to academic excellence. At the Pre-School level, the curriculum nurtures the whole child, in addition to developing skills in the Armenian language. At the Elementary level, core curriculum subjects are taught in English. Position summary

Primary financial officer responsible for the management and disbursement of funds for St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School, ensuring that sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational requirements. This is a year-round part-time position (24 hours/week) that reports primarily to the Treasurer on the Board of Directors.

Financial Responsibilities 

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Receive, record, and deposit all payments received for tuition, registration, and extracurricular programs
  • Record, register, and maintain new and existing students in a financial database and student database
  • Ensure that all accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Responsible for maintaining all payroll related information for school employees
  • Primary financial contact for all major donor events: works closely with event chair to maintain all accounting aspects, including deposits and record-keeping activities i.e. general donations, annual fund, memorial donations, and special events
  • Record and report to the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) their financial status
  • Manage and set up a tuition payment plan
  • Manage incidental billing (i.e. after school program, volunteer hours)
  • Collect information on financial aid, meet with Financial Aid Committee for the notification and tracking of all families who applied for financial aid
  • Implement and maintain an on-line vendor payment system i.e., bill pay system using the designated financial institution
  • Implement and maintain an on-line payment receiving system i.e., receive payments for various school activities/fundraisers from parents or donors

 Reporting Responsibilities 

  • Prepare all financial reports for the Board of Directors
  • Manage the production of the annual budget, annual report, and forecasts
  • Prepare monthly profit and loss and cash-flow reports
  • Responsible for preparing the annual financial reports
  • Work closely with Church Treasurer on preparing payroll information reports needed for state requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience in Accounting or Bookkeeping
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Strong general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial knowledge
  • Proficiency in accounting software i.e., QuickBooks and FACTS
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, critical/analytical thinking, and computer skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of administration, parents, and management
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Audit experience
